Lease & Land

All lease applications are submitted through the local Traditional Council in the area where the land is located. Contact your local iNkosi or Traditional Council office to begin the application process. The Trust does not accept applications directly.

The Trust issues Permission to Occupy (PTO) for residential use, commercial leases for businesses, agricultural leases for farming, and institutional leases for schools, clinics, and places of worship.

Processing times vary depending on the lease type and completeness of documentation. The Trust aims to process applications within 90 days of receiving a complete submission from the Traditional Council.

Community Benefits

Community members must apply through their local iNkosi and Traditional Council. Direct applications to Ingonyama Trust will not be processed. See the Community Benefits page for details.

The Trust funds bursaries, infrastructure projects, agricultural support, youth development, and cultural preservation initiatives across KwaZulu-Natal.

Yes. All bidders must be registered on the Central Supplier Database (CSD) and be tax-compliant. The Trust verifies CSD status as part of bid evaluation.

Awards are published on the Awarded Bids section of this page within 14 working days of contract signature, in line with the PFMA and our Service Charter.

Bidders may lodge a written objection within 10 working days of award notice. Email your objection with grounds to info@ingonyamatrust.org.za. Independent review follows our SCM dispute procedure.

Governance

The Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees chaired by His Majesty the King of the Zulu Nation, as sole Trustee. A Board of Directors oversees operations under statutory mandate from the Ingonyama Trust Act, 1994.

Yes. Financial statements are audited annually by the Auditor-General of South Africa. Annual reports are tabled in Parliament and available on the Annual Reports page.
