The Ingonyama Trust Board (ITB) welcomes the deliberations and recommendations made by the Portfolio Committee on Land Reform and Rural Development regarding Ingonyama Holdings (IH), a subsidiary of Ingonyama Trust established as a commercial wing of the Trust during Mr Ngwenya’s tenure as chairperson of Ingonyama Trust Board.

The ITB appreciates the Committee’s recognition of the seriousness of the governance and accountability issues surrounding IH, which continues to operate outside the mandate of the Ingonyama Trust despite the severance of ties and public disassociation. The Committee’s consideration of stronger measures, including the involvement of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), represents a decisive step towards restoring accountability and safeguarding the resources of communities under the jurisdiction of the Ingonyama Trust.

The ITB has already escalated the matter to the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) and attempted to lodged a fraud case with the South African Police Service (SAPS). However, with no progress to date, the ITB supports the Committee’s position that further investigative and enforcement measures are necessary.

Commitment to Accountability

“The Ingonyama Trust Board fully supports the Committee’s recommendations and remains committed to working with Parliament, government, and law enforcement agencies to ensure that every irregularity linked to Ingonyama Holdings is investigated, and that accountability is enforced,” said Mr. Siyamdumisa Vilakazi, Acting CEO of ITB.

The ITB reaffirms its duty to act in the best interest of the communities it serves and will continue to pursue all legal and institutional channels to recover funds and protect the integrity of the Trust.
